Spotlight AMFAB – A Great Local Art Resource
Located about 50 minutes north of NYC, in Bridgeport CT, you’ll find AMFAB, otherwise known as the American Fabric Arts Building. This historic building houses over 30 local artists and other creative businesses showcasing painting, photography, sculpture, woodworking, quilt makers, jewelers, pottery, and more! It is a cool resource for interior designers and art lovers alike. If you are in the market for artwork, or just seeking creative inspiration, this is a must see destination for you!
A couple of favorite artists that I work with for my design projects are based at AMFAB. Many love working on commission too, which means they will create a new piece specifically for a client’s room I’m working on. I love to collaborate on pieces with the artists by giving them the fabrics, colors, and themes of a room and then see their beautiful end product! Commissioned pieces are special and ones you’ll never find in any gallery or store.
Most visits to the building are by appointment only, but each November AMFAB holds an Open Studios event where you can tour all of it’s 25 galleries, meet the artists, view, and purchase their works. It’s part of a larger, city-wide event in Bridgeport called Bridgeport’s Art Trail and is considered the region’s premiere platform for discovering local talent. It’s a wonderful opportunity to meet and mingle with fellow creative types and get huge doses of inspiration! Here are a few photos of my recent trip to the Open Studios event this year. Mark your calendars and hope to see you there next year! Happy Designing!
