C atch a glimpse into the busy day of Lara Michelle running her successful design business. Juggling several projects at once and catering to high end clients is no small feat. Here's a small peek...
7:20 am: In the gym getting those creative juices flowing! There’s nothing more energizing than a 30 minute workout and good stretch with some yoga to get the stiff bones moving and brain cells activated. It’s a must at least 3-4 times a week! Workout is followed by a healthy breakfast, shower, and then off to the meetings we go!
9:30 am : In my workroom inspecting client’s furniture and reviewing design details. I design and make a large amount of custom furniture and cabinetry for my client’s homes. Custom means I can make pieces to the exact sizes I need and with the perfect fabrics, trims and finishes. With COVID, I’m doing even more in-house custom pieces since most of my preferred furniture companies are taking so long these days. This way, I can make the items in half the time and also get to inspect the work in progress every step of the way so there are no mistakes and no unexpected surprises! Ensuring every detail is perfect is part of my client satisfaction process where I aim to exceed all of my client’s expectations!
11:30 AM: Virtual meeting with clients to review and discuss design details for their home. During COVID we are conducting more meetings via phone and zoom. We still meet in person when needed wearing masks and keeping distance of course, but we’re finding many things can get done just as well virtually too. I think virtual meetings will be here to stay for many design tasks after COVID since it cuts down on travel expenses and time for everyone. That’s one good thing resulting from this pandemic….gotta stay positive and try to look at the bright side!
3:30 pm : After lunch, stopping in on construction progress at client’s houses. My specialty is the design and oversight of large scale renovations and new home builds. This means I spend a lot of time on job sites inspecting work in progress to make sure everything is moving along and being done correctly. During a project, contractors have lots of detailed questions that need to be answered and they also need to be scheduled properly and managed along the way. I love my team of highly skilled contractors, they are amazing at what they do and so much fun to work with. It’s such a thrill to watch them bring my designs to life and then see my client’s faces when their spaces are complete :-) This is basically why I do what I do!
5:30 pm: Back in office to check emails, phone messages, and catch up on social media. At the end of the day, I try to respond to all my emails, questions, and posts on social media. Instagram is by far my most utilized form of social media. Since it is so visual, it provides the perfect means to share my work, work in progress, products and trends I love, and much more. Check out and follow my page @laramichelleinteriors and let me know what you think, I’d love to hear from you! XO, Lara
